FAQs

Here are some Frequently Asked Questions. If your question isn’t answered below, please use our Contact Form or call us.

Q?

You advertise a free consultation. What does it consist of?

A.

Our initial consultation (in person or by phone) is a time for you to learn more about Western Sky Design (WSD) and decide if our services are a good fit for your needs. For WSD it’s a time to get more information about your business and any specific projects. We generally ask a lot of questions, so be ready to talk. This initial meeting is important to both parties as we each have a say in working together.

Q?

How much does it cost and how long does it take to design and/or print ____________ ? (fill in the blank)

A.

WSD doesn’t have a “price list” per se, as every project is unique in its details. If you call and provide an overview of your needs we can generally provide a ballpark figure and turnaround time. We will provide a formal quotation if requested, once we get more detail from you.

Q?

We are considering WSD and other design firms for a project. Will you prepare a design for us so we can decide who to hire?

A.

WSD does not accept speculative assignments because of the risks: the risk of not being paid, the potential loss if time, and potential out of pocket expenses. Successful work comes out of a partnership with our clients.

Q?

Will WSD do design work for a personal project?

A.

Though most of our services are business to business, WSD will work on personal projects on occasion. From invitations and calling cards to calendars and cookbooks, we can help.

Q?

I found an image on the internet I want to use in my project. Is that okay?

A.

It’s tempting to use the internet as a resource library for photos and graphics; however, there are copyright laws which must be followed. WSD will go through the right channels to purchase content legally and/or obtain permission from the owner for usage.

Q?

Once a project is finished can I get all of the files from you?

A.

As stated in Article 12 of the Graphic Communications Industry’s Code of Fair Practice: “Original artwork, and any material object used to store a computer file containing original artwork, remains the property of the artist unless it is specifically purchased. It is distinct from the purchase of any reproductive rights. All transactions shall be in writing.” More simply stated: WSD owns all native artwork files, including preliminary and final designs. Most deliverables are printed materials and/or final designs in PDF format.

Q?

What kind of training do you offer?

A.

We provide one-on-one training in a variety of desktop publishing and office applications. The training location can be our office, your office, or your home. Please see our Services page.

Q?

We have a logo but it doesn’t reproduce well. Can you help?

A.

Yes, logo clean up is a production service we offer and is based on our hourly rate. Logo design (or redesign) is a more complex matter.

Q?

Do you print t-shirts or car decals?

A.

You’d be surprised how many phone calls we get for this. If you are an established client of WSD we are happy to assist you. Otherwise we recommend you search the internet for vendors who specialize in these services.
